Can Am Camp and Competition

Nov. 13-19, 2017

Calgary Olympic Oval

When:  Mon., Nov. 13-19, 2017

Where:  Calgary Olympic Oval

Who:  This camp is targeted towards Canada Winter Games eligible athletes (14-20 years old as of June 30, 2018).  Twelve-year-olds and up will be considered on the recommendation of their club coach.  Participating skaters should have been training 2 to 3 days per week during the summer.

What:  A team of Saskatchewan coaches, coordinated by the provincial coach, will lead long track practices from Monday to Thursday.  Athletes will compete from Friday to Sunday. Skaters who are prepared almost always set personals and often get qualifying times for Canada Cups at this meet.

Food:  Will be prepared by parent volunteers. Skaters will assist with preparation and clean up whenever possible.

Lodging:  Econolodge Motel, 2-4 skaters/room

Parent volunteers:  Dee Marshall has agreed to coordinate food again this year (thank you!).  She will need two full-time food preparation people. Other parents are welcome of course but there will not be a great deal for them to do.  We would love to have a parent from each club preparing food but this may not be possible. Please contact Tim ASAP if you wish to help with food prep.  Our food team will consist of a team of three.

Transportation:  The north will have a van and at least one other vehicle. The south may have a van depending on numbers.  Traditionally, parents were responsible to get kids there.  We will talk more closer to the camp.

Cost:  Can vary but has been between $100 and $200 per athlete. Cost includes most meals, accommodation, oval practice ice and transportation.  Not included are meet registration, meals on the way and way back, and recreation such as souvenirs and trampolining.  There is no cost to parents.  We couldn't do this without you and we appreciate all the time you are donating to making this happen.

Under 14 year olds:  Are able to race just the 500 and 1000 m.

Coaches:  Tim Comfort, CJ, Chris Veeman, Brenda Comfort

Club visits:  Invite the provincial coach to your club to talk about Can Am and other opportunities this year!

More info:  Will be available closer to Nov. 13.
